Identity Design

The ‘South Yarra Mum’ is a character created by Australian comedienne Kate Hanley. I have created numerous pieces for Kate across her various roles to date, including business cards, a website, outdoor banners and brochures.

There have been several iterations of this design, with different colour schemes to reflect the different festivals at which she has performed the role.

Identity Design for Film
Identity Design for Film

This logo was created for an upcoming nature documentary looking to save the world’s most carbon rich forest. It needed to be clean and able to be used across a range film stills, but also recognisable as a logo in its own right.

The fact that humanity is eroding this “Great Forest” is something that the director felt was important to reference in the logo as well as the film itself.

A series of illustrations created for Coursearch, a search portal designed to help prospective students find a higher education course that suits them. The brief required: a 404 error image; a maintenance image to appear on the temporary splash page; an image to appear after the submission of the enquiry form; and a cover image to be used on their Facebook page.

Cryptic Cocktails
Cryptic Cocktails

An ongoing series of visual representations of cocktails titled ‘Cryptic Cocktails’, that play on the entertaining names that many cocktails possess. Each illustration is also a set of concise instructions, with every horizontal bar representing 15ml.

Let me know if you have trouble figuring them out.

This double page flyer was created for Jasnor to showcase their latest products. It included deep-etching of the photography.

Christmas Creature Postcards
Christmas Creature Postcards

Designed for Paper Stone Scissors’ annual Christmas postcard mail out, these creatures can be popped out and glued together as a fun activity for the silly season.

As it was quite a tactile project I included faint textures of fur and feathers as a counterpoint to the otherwise flat and simple design.

The production was a comedic musical put together by the University of Melbourne Music Theatre Association.

The project included the creation of a hero image which could be used across posters and other promotional collateral, including
on social media and their dedicated website.

It needed to be very geometric, clean and mechanical, but still whimsical and with a clear sense of fun. It also needed to work within an existing colour scheme.

Designed for Five Mile Press, this range of colouring and activity book covers are an example of the licensed character design work I’ve done for My Design Group.

The internals in particular were quite challenging, as the poses of each of the girls were very similar, with no lineart backgrounds, but I didn’t want any of the pages to be too similar to any other in the series.

Postcard Invitation
Postcard Invitation

Created for a past birthday, this postcard was inspired by Sci-Fi movies and books of the 1950s.

To keep with the retro theme, I chose three main colours to work with and played on all of the tropes: busty girl, bubble helmet, rocket boots, something with tentacles and a ludicrously long movie title and tagline.

Postcards are also a favourite medium, so it seemed only logical to distribute them in this way. The finish included a gloss-coated front and uncoated back.

This book, titled ‘Minnaloushe, do you dance?’ is a personal project. I think many people are overwhelmed by the mere concept of poetry and never look any closer. This anthology showcases different styles and eras with explanatory notes.

The illustration is of the line:

"My vegetable love should grow  /  Vaster than empires, and more slow;"

An illustrated ‘Bushism’, or George W. Bush statement:

"I am here to make an announcement that this Thursday, ticket counters and airplanes will fly out of Ronald Reagan Airport.”

A personal project to play with having a clear sense of motion and direction within illustration.

These newsletters were designed to be modular as they needed to fit the needs of over forty real estate agents with varying selling portfolios and service areas.

Generic content was created to be filler as required, as well as custom articles and infographics.

I also was responsible for ensuring that the printing and distribution ran smoothly and on time.

An illustrated fairytale book, titled ‘The Girl with the Maimed Hands’ created as the practical part of a research project undertaken for my Honours year in university. It is a story that never underwent the process of “Disneyfication” and was created in the format reminiscent of a ‘Little Golden Book’ to highlight the radical change to the genre wrought by Disney.

It’s a delightful tale.
